INTRODUCTION

It has long been the ambition of this site to provide articles from like-minded researchers and guest writers willing to share their knowledge on aspects of Yorkshire’s rich and varied history. The following article by Trish Colton and Diane Holloway is the first such article. Its subject matter will be of interest to a great many I suspect, given the current vogue for information about the Knights Templar. Trish and Diane very kindly offered the article to www.yorkshirehistory.com and I am privileged to include it here. I wish to take this opportunity therefore to thank them both for their wonderful generosity and for their trust in the integrity of this site.

It is the fervent hope that more articles will be added as they are offered. Provided they are well researched, as this one is, and that they are fully annotated and referenced, as this one is, and that there are no breaches of copyright, which this has not, then www.yorkshirehistory.com is more than willing to consider them for inclusion. Anyone who wants to publish their research concerning any aspect of Yorkshire’s history can approach me about it. Most will know there is no, or very little, money to be made for such often long hours and hard work, access therefore to the World Wide Web permits such research and endeavour to be accessed and seen around the world, which has to be worthwhile. In other words – the more the merrier!

It has to be pointed out that any and all copyright for the following belongs entirely to Trish Colton and Diane Holloway, and if there are any requests concerning this or any other aspect of the article, they should be referred to them via this web site at:
