th.CProbable Motte and bailey, must have been located very close to the sea. It is known to have been in existence in 1115 as a grant made by Stephen Earl of Albermarl to the monks of St. Martin de Albermarl of tenths of the castle. This is the only known historical reference to the castle.

Almondbury Castle Hill is a striking set of earth works overlooking the town of Huddersfield which lies immediately to the north. Original timber construction replaced by stone

Aske:Or, three bars azure, the centre one charged with an annulet of the firstRectangular motte ; appears to have been double ditched all round ; on one side a curious inner ditch enclosed by banks attached to the motte.

Moated manor?Le Patourel : Although farm now called Ruddings Grange lies c. ¼ mile to the south, this should be Ellerton Grange said, in 1251, to have walls and dykes. Out of vill.
